Mesoblast-JCR Reimbursement Schedule Gives Hints of MultiStem Price

The Japan Ministry of Health released reimbursement details for Mesoblast-JCR's TEMCELL treatment for GvHD. For a 10.8ml bag (typical dose), the Total Price is 868,680 Yen or around $7,073 USD. Dosing regimen is two times per week for four weeks for a total treatment cost of $56,584 plus a potential "booster" of one dose per week for four weeks, equaling $28,292. That's 100M cells per dose, or a total of 800M to 1.2B cells.

Granted, Athersys envisions one 1.2B cell dose total for stroke but even with a prep and administration cost savings of 50% by delivering one dose versus up to 12 doses, MultiStem could sell for in the range of $42,000 per dose.

Peak sales forecast is 3.5B Yen/year, which equals around $28.5M USD. Remember GvHD is a much smaller application than stroke.
